This first workshop will give an overview of the 4 devices that we will cover in the series. We will go over the basics of what enabling technology is and then show real-life examples of how it’s used. We will explore some of the ethics of using technology, especially with regard to supporting vs monitoring. The goal is to help people recognize the role of enabling technology and understand the importance of the support network.

The spectrum of enabling technology supports that are available to help with medications will be used as an example. We will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of currently available options from simple alarms to devices like the Medready. This workshop will guide participants in creating a plan for a smooth transition to greater independence using technology. The goal is to give individuals, caregivers and support networks the knowledge they need to promote independence through the use of enabling technology.
