International Seminar for Halakhic Study

The Conservative Movement’s Committee on Jewish Law and Standards is proud to present the International Seminar for Halakhic Study, a movement-wide seminar in which Conservative/Masorti congregations, communities, and schools will come together to study a specific teshuvah (Legal Responsum) of the CJLS. This year, we will learn two: the teshuvot co-authored by Marcus Mordecai Schwartz and Chaim Weiner: A New Responsum on the Sabbath and David Fine and Barry Leff: Electric Cars on Shabbat: A Renewed Responsum on the Sabbath.

In preparation, we will have two preliminary sessions to explore more generally the meaning and observances of Shabbat:

Tuesday, Feb. 13 7:30PM: “Zakhor and Shamor – The Abstract & the Concrete in Observing Shabbat”

Tuesday, Feb. 20 7:30PM: “Mountains Hanging by a Thread: A Little on Shabbat Halakhah”
