One Community, Many Rhythms
An Afternoon of Dance, Culture & Connection
Let the power of movement and music (including live drumming) lead you on a cultural journey. In this multicultural dance workshop, we’ll explore the vibrant heritages of West African, Israeli folk and East Indian dance, including special choreography that will tie these traditions together.
Come dance, connect, and celebrate the diversity of our community.
All ages and abilities are welcome—no dance experience is required.
Wear comfortable clothing.

Ellen Berkowitz

Ellen Berkowitz is the director of the Shamayim Israeli Dance Program, bringing dancers from across Greater MetroWest NJ together to learn, perform and celebrate Israeli culture. She has taught Israeli dance since high school and now teaches students of all ages throughout the region. She has directed Israeli dance programs at summer camps, founded Israeli dance groups in communities from Boston to Albany, and performed on stages across the United States and even in Israel. |
Pastor Eyesha Marable

Pastor Eyesha Marable is a trained dancer, ordained Itinerant Elder, and Pastor of Mt. Zion AME Church in Millburn, NJ. She serves as Director of Community Engagement at NJPAC and as Coordinator of Dance for the 1st Episcopal District under Bishop Gregory Ingram. Pastor Eyesha is the founder of the National Liturgical Dance Network, which brings together, trains, and supports churches and worshippers through dance ministry. |
Guru Bina Menon

Guru Bina Menon is an accomplished Indian classical dancer, choreographer and founder of Kalashri School of Arts. A student of renowned dancer Kalamandalam Gopalakrishnan, she began performing and choreographing at a young age and has brought Indian dance and culture to audiences throughout the U.S. and internationally. Her students have performed at venues including NJPAC, Princeton University and the Academy Awards. |
Karen Miles
 |
Karen Miles is founder and director of Zawadi African Dance and Drum, Inc., based in Newark, NJ. Miles is also a freelance dancer with Maimouna Keita School of Dance and Umoja Dance Company and is a teaching artist at NJPAC. |
