Gathering Evidence of Atrocities: Investigations in the Former Soviet Union, Guatemala, Iraq, and Ukraine – Session 1

In honor of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime and Human Rights Day, join the Holocaust Resource Center and YAHAD – IN UNUM virtually for a two-part experience exploring how historical evidence, survivor testimony, and investigative research help uncover, document, and understand genocide and mass violence. These are both VIRTUAL events.
Session 1: The Holocaust by Bullets: Investigating Mass Murder in Eastern Europe
This session will introduce participants to the Holocaust by Bullets and Yahad – In Unum’s investigative methodology. Using eyewitness testimony, archival documents, maps, and other historical evidence, participants will explore how our researchers reconstruct the process of mass shootings at the local level. A short case study will demonstrate both the investigative process and how this methodology can be translated into a classroom activity. The session will also introduce additional educational resources available to teachers.
