Holocaust Museum Trips

Holocaust Remembrance Journeys

In the past, Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ has offered one-day journeys for high school students to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., followed by a visit to the Lincoln Memorial and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. We are excited that the museum is working on incredible updates, however this means that the main exhibition will not be available to the public during construction which will begin in January 2027 and be completed in 2029.

As an alternative to the museum trip to Washington, D.C., we recommend a visit to The Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York City. The day may conclude with a visit to the exterior of the 9/11 Memorial and the Anne Frank Tree.

Federation will fund transportation and museum admission. Schools are responsible for arranging and contracting bus transportation and will be reimbursed by Federation for the pre-approved cost of the bus. Federation will also cover the cost of museum tickets. Students and chaperones should bring their own lunch. To help prepare participants for the experience, we will arrange for a Holocaust survivor or descendant to share their story with students prior to the trip, providing important historical context and setting the stage for the day. Trips depart from the school at approximately 8 a.m. and return at approximately 4 p.m.

The Holocaust Education Department works toward peace, hope, and tolerance through education and dialogue. Bringing students to Holocaust museums is our way of helping today’s youth learn lessons from the tragic events of World War II in the hope that this tragedy is never repeated to anyone, anywhere. The day is a transformative experience.

We are currently booking trips for the 2026-27 school year.
