Holocaust Remembrance Journeys
Among the programs Holocaust Education helps plan and facilitate are the Holocaust Remembrance Journeys.
These are one-day journeys for high school students to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. followed by a visit to the Lincoln Memorial and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Some of these trips are supported by the Morris Rubell Holocaust Foundation and all trips are offered to public and private schools at no cost to the school or to the students. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. The day is fun but also highly educational and inspiring. The bus serves as a moving classroom, with Ilyse Shainbrown, Director of Holocaust Education and Combatting Antisemitism Coordinator, and one or two survivors or descendants of survivors. Each trip is limited to 45 students and to schools in Union, Essex, Morris, Sussex and parts of Somerset counties.
The Holocaust Education Department works toward peace, hope, and tolerance through education and dialogue. Bringing students to the Holocaust Museum is our way of helping today’s youth learns lessons from the tragic events of World War II in the hope that this tragedy is never repeated to anyone, anywhere. The day is a transforming experience.
Bookings for the 2024-25 school year are closed. We are currently booking trips for the 2025-26 school year.
