Date: Thursday, December 10
Time: 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm (EST)
Zoom

In honor of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime and Human Rights Day, join the Holocaust Resource Center and YAHAD – IN UNUM virtually for a two-part experience exploring how historical evidence, survivor testimony, and investigative research help uncover, document, and understand genocide and mass violence. These are both VIRTUAL events.

Session 2: Investigating Genocide and Mass Violence: Guatemala and the Yazidi Genocide
Drawing on Yahad – In Unum’s investigations beyond the Holocaust, this session will examine two more recent cases of mass violence and genocide. The first part will introduce the Guatemalan Internal Armed Conflict and examine genocidal practices against Maya communities through a short investigative case study based on Yahad – In Unum’s research. The second part will focus on the genocide of the Yazidis in Iraq, using another case study to examine the crimes committed by ISIS and the continuing consequences of the genocide for survivors and their communities.
