Let There Be Play: Exploring Jewish Holiday and Torah Stories in Early Childhood

How can you bring the Jewish early childhood classroom to life through theater and play?
Join award-winning Jewish Educator and Theater Artist Jonathan Shmidt Chapman (Founder, The K’ilu Company) for this hands-on workshop that will guide early childhood educators in using theater and play as tools to explore Jewish tradition. Jonathan will lead participants in exploring a variety of storytelling techniques, including sensory storytelling, guided narration, physical theater, and soundscape. We will use Jewish stories (Holidays and Torah) as a way to activate these techniques, while exploring how the tools can be utilized across the ECE curriculum.
Participants will get a chance to try these techniques themselves, and then unpack their application from infant/toddler through pre-school rooms.
Together, we’ll explore how to make Jewish tradition more accessible and dynamic for young learners and their families through theater and creative play.
