The documentary October 8, directed by Wendy Sachs, explores the alarming rise of antisemitism on college campuses, across social media, and throughout the United States following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Recognizing the importance of experiencing this powerful film as a community—and deepening our understanding of the antisemitism and intense anti-Israel sentiment unfolding in academic institutions and public spaces—Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ hosted a special private October 8 screening at the AMC Theater in East Hanover on Wednesday, March 26.
More than 50 members of our broader community, including families, Federation leaders, and other community members, attended this must-see film. We were also honored to welcome educators, members of the Coalition for Jewish and African American Unity and Interfaith Leaders Against Hate and Antisemitism, who joined in solidarity to stand against hate. Our allies may have learned the most, expressing gratitude for gaining a deeper understanding of what has been so painful and personal for the Jewish community.
“Where was I when all this was happening?” asked Vanessa Brown, Morris County NAACP President and State NAACP Vice President. “I had no idea.”
The October 8 screening fostered meaningful conversations as attendees lingered in the theater lobby, strengthening our collective commitment to combating antisemitism.
There is still time to see the film—its theatrical run has been extended through next week.
