This thrilling drama tells the heroic true story of 19-year-old Irena Gut (portrayed by Sophie Nélisse, of the hit series Yellowjackets), a Polish nursing student who is conscripted to work as a housekeeper for a Nazi officer. Shocked by the Nazi’s brutality against her Jewish neighbors, Irena decides to shelter 12 Jewish workers in the safest place she can find: the cellar of the Nazi officer’s villa. Irena uses her wit and courage to hide her friends for the next two years, persevering through countless Nazi parties, a blackmail scheme, and an unexpected pregnancy, until the chaotic end of the war creates new threats to their lives.
The Emergent Curriculum Community of Practice (CoP) will convene classroom and leadership educators with medium to advanced experience in child-led, emergent curriculum to learn with one another and take their skills to the next level. This CoP will be led in collaboration with Gatherround Consulting. Through reflective and collaborative practices, participants will build curriculum based on children’s interests. Sessions are scheduled approximately six weeks prior to a Jewish holiday to allow participants time to intentionally connect ongoing curriculum to the holiday. Registration opening soon.
Stefcia, a Jewish actress with a theater company in the Warsaw Ghetto, must make several major life decisions, including whether to escape, in the midst of a stage performance. This drama features an international cast and crew and incorporates the book and lyrics of Jerzy Jurandot’s musical Love Gets a Room, which was performed inside the Warsaw Ghetto. Moving nimbly between the stage, the theater corridors, and the bleak ghetto outside, Love Gets a Room balances life-and-death struggle with the art we create to survive and transcend it.

During the 1930s, the German-American Bund, a revived organization emerging from the disbanded Friends of New Germany under the leadership of immigrant Fritz Kuhn, established more than twenty youth camps across the country. To most outsiders, these camps appeared to be summer camps to give German-American youth opportunities to engage with sports and the land. But in reality, they were fronts of the Nazi movement. The Vel d’Hiv Round-Up: The Largest Mass Arrest in Wartime French History On July 16-17, 1942 in Occupied Paris, more than 13,000 French Jews were arrested by French Police. The victims were held in deplorable conditions at the Vélodrome d'Hiver or Vel d'Hiv, an indoor cycling stadium until they were sent to detainment camps outside of Paris where they either died or were deported to concentration camps. Dr. Eileen Angelini’s presentation will discuss how the Vichy Government planned this round-up and how the French government and people have since dealt with the pain and shame of this traumatic event.

For over the past 8 years, Adath Shalom has been hosting monthly programming for adults in the community who have special needs. Many guests join us from Jewish Services for the Developmentally Disabled Residences, though we also have guests who live in other home environments. Adath Shalom’s monthly program includes a Shabbat service utilizing a special interactive prayer book created especially for our guests and designed specifically for prayer interaction. Fearful that growing affluence and suburbanization threatened the future of Jewish life in the decades after the Holocaust, American Jewish leaders hoped to preserve authentic Jewish culture through residential summer camps for Jewish youth. Congregation Shomrei Emunah In Montclair, NJ is proud to partner with Moving Traditions to launch a Tzelem group for LGBTQ+ teens. This group is open to 7th - 12th graders across the MetroWest NJ region who identify as LGBTQ+. The goal of this group is to create a safe space for queer Jewish teens of all genders and sexualities to talk about the issues in their life and explore the intersection of their queer and Jewish identities. 4 part training series for students to learn stories of Holocaust Survivors and propagate them in Greater MetroWest. Cohort based experience that will empower ambassadors to the community for the Shoah. Culmination of the group will be an in person production on Yom Hashoah (Jewish Holocaust remembrance Day) to share the stories of those who perished with our community.
