Told from five different perspectives (mother\, daughter\, son and father)\, the novel uses a spare\, unsentimental style to explore themes of racism\, exile and the loss of identity\, drawing on the author’s own family history. \nThe book is 160 pages\, and is available at the following libraries: West Orange\, Livingston\, Millburn\, Roseland\, South Orange and Glen Ridge as a printed book. It is also available as an eBook and audiobook on OVERDRIVE and in a large print edition as well. The book is also available from Amazon in hardcover and Kindle editions.

SUMMARY:Jewish Books in the Islamic World: From the Middle Ages Until Modern Times
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Noam Sienna\, the Bildner Center’s Aresty Visiting Scholar\, will offer a window into Jewish life in the Islamic world\, from medieval Cairo to modern-day North Africa\, through an examination of Jewish books and other written texts. Texts produced by Jews over the centuries in Egypt\, the Ottoman Mediterranean\, North Africa\, and the Middle East shed important light on the dynamics of interreligious encounters among Jews\, Christians\, and Muslims; local relations with the transnational Jewish diaspora; the legacy of the Jewish expulsion from Spain in 1492 CE; and the active role taken by Jews in Islamic countries during the complex\, turbulent transition to modernity. This three-part virtual mini-course is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required on the Bildner Center’s website.
