Bnai Keshet: Pride Shabbat

Date: Friday, June 9
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm (EDT)
Bnai Keshet

Join us for an exuberant Kabbalat Shabbat celebration of Pride. We will sing, celebrate and unite against hate as we welcome the Schechina, or the original Shabbat Queen.

We also welcome Bnai Keshet member, Peter Savastano who will be facilitating a talk titled, “Things Are Going to Slide in All Directions: What is Going On With Sexuality and Gender Locally and Globally?”. He will be drawing on insights about human sexuality and gender from an anthropolitical, theological and mystical perspective. This talk aspires to make sense of this nation’s and global forces at play in the recent anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation now being passed in many US States and in other places in the world.

See below for a link to more information or to register for dinner at 6:30. Services will begin at 7:30.

Bio: Peter Savastano holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Society from the Drew University Graduate Theological School. He specializes in issues of sex, gender, race and human consciousness, and the intersection (for better or worse) of all of these issues with religion. He also studies and teaches about mysticism in the world’s sacred/religious traditions. Peter Savastano is Associate Professor of Anthropology and Religious Studies at Seton Hall University.
