“Helping others inspires me to do more. I have made donations to Federation for several years, but this year I decided to increase my level of personal involvement by volunteering.”
How are you involved with Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ?
I have made donations to Federation for several years, but this year I decided to increase my level of personal involvement by volunteering. I enjoy participating in “mitzvah of the moment” programs such as putting together care packages for seniors and making craft packs for children. I also volunteer at the Food Pantry in Elizabeth.
What inspires you to volunteer?
I get very emotional volunteering at the Food Pantry. I am overwhelmed by the kindness, generosity and commitment that fellow volunteers show not only for the Jewish Community, but to anyone who needs our help. Seeing the number of people standing in 20-degree weather to receive bags of fruit, vegetables, diapers, and the gratitude, warmth and friendliness of all involved inspires me to keep going. My inspiration for giving also comes from within. I feel very blessed in this life and consider giving to the community as my way of showing appreciation for my good fortune.
What do you wish other people knew about Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ?
I wish other people knew the sheer scope of all that Federation does. There are a plethora of volunteering opportunities regardless of a person’s schedule. For example, I was able to package the mitzvah projects right in my dining room.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about getting involved with Federation?
Just do it! Seriously, it’s that simple. Pick something that you can do, commit and do it.
