A New Federation Journey

“Getting involved connected us to other families. We were figuring out where to move, specifically the best places to start a family. We reached out to Federation to learn about Jewish communities in NJ”

When did you get involved with Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ?

Recently! We were figuring out where to move, specifically the best places to start a family. We reached out to Federation to learn about Jewish communities in NJ, and were immediately connected to different Federation groups like NextDor, the young leadership division for 25-45ish year olds, and PJ Library, a program that sends free books to children and offers a ton of for families with young kids. We are thrilled that our initial outreach to Federation ended up introducing us to other families.

How are you involved in Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ?

Even though we consider ourselves “new” to Federation, we jumped right in. I (Jenna) am now a committee member of the Business and Professionals Network and was also a committee member for Latke Vodka, the signature event for local 25-45 year olds. Our son loves his monthly PJ Library books and we participate as much as possible in the family programming. We have also hosted virtual sessions with new families that recently moved to the area. It was a great way to connect with other local Jewish families.

The last time you made a donation, how did it make you feel? What inspires you to give?

Donating to Federation makes me feel connected to fellow Jews and part of the cause. Growing up in philanthropic families, giving is in our DNA, and we were actively looking for something to call our own. Supporting the Jewish community is extremely important to us, so supporting Jewish Federation was a natural fit. We also want to instill these values in our son and as soon as he is old enough to understand, we will get involved in family mitzvah projects. Seeing the work that Federation does, watching the community come together and make a difference in peoples’ lives is really rewarding.

What do you wish other people knew about Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ and the work we do together?

There are so many different ways to get involved. We are just getting started and I know there is a lot more opportunity for us to grow our connection to the community.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about getting involved with Federation?

Give it try. Just get started with committing to one activity or program and the floodgates will open. You will find that you want to continue to explore other avenues to become more involved very quickly. And you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
