Iris Teen Tzedakah

Philanthropy. Leadership. Jewish Values.

Iris Teen Tzedakah at Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ

Iris Teen Tzedakah is a one-year program for 9th and 10th graders focused on philanthropy, Jewish education, and leadership. As an Iris Advisor (our teen participants), you’ll explore how Greater MetroWest responds to people in need locally, globally, and in Israel—while making a real impact through hands-on giving.

Through Iris Teen Tzedakah, you will immerse yourself in Jewish teen philanthropy, learning about Jewish solidarity and communal responsibility. You’ll take an active role in allocating significant funds to impactful Jewish causes, while engaging in deep discussions on Jewish values and Tzedakah.

How It Works

Participants will:

  • Meet once a month on Sundays for two-hour sessions in Whippany.
  • Participate in team-building activities outside of regular meetings.
  • Contribute $250 of their own money into a collective fund, matched by the Herb & Milly Iris Youth and Family Philanthropy Endowment.
  • Work as a cohort to allocate thousands of dollars to Jewish causes based on their learning and experiences.
  • Engage with Jewish leaders, philanthropists, and experts to gain insight into Jewish giving and communal responsibility.

The Iris Teen Tzedakah is supported by the Herb and Milly Iris Youth and Family Philanthropy Endowment
