About Us
Congregation AABJ&D is a warm and vibrant Orthodox shul seeking a passionate and experienced Director to lead our exceptional Early Childhood Program at the Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School.  The Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School provides a nurturing and engaging environment for children ranging from infants through 5 years old, and we support young children’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical and spiritual growth through a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Position Overview
The Director will be responsible for the overall educational vision and leadership, curriculum development, staff supervision, family engagement, and day-to-day operations of the program, while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for children, families, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership & Curriculum Development:
    • Refine and execute the school’s pedagogical vision and curriculum objectives, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and values.
    • Implement curriculum and standards, adapting and developing new programming as needed to meet the evolving needs of the children.
    • Ensure that the curriculum supports both developmental goals for students and the readiness skills needed for each subsequent year, ensuring a seamless and effective educational progression.
    • Integrate the Judaic curriculum across all aspects of the school, ensuring that Jewish values, traditions, and teachings are woven into both secular and Judaic subjects, enhancing the spiritual and intellectual development of each child.
    • Create an environment that builds connection to Am Yisrael, Torah and Mitzvot and develops a love for Eretz Yisrael.
  • Staff Supervision & Professional Development:
    • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate nursery school staff.
    • Overall supervision of early childhood staff, including mentoring teaching staff, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback in curriculum implementation and classroom management.
    •  Advanced planning to develop the schedule and content for each age group.
    • Foster a collaborative and supportive team culture with ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Parent & Community Engagement:
    • Build strong relationships with parents, fostering open communication and collaboration.
    • Ensure regular communication with parents regarding their child’s progress, classroom activities, and program updates.
    • Address parent concerns and make adjustments as appropriate.
    • Collaborate with rabbis, shul leadership, and lay committees to integrate the nursery school into the broader synagogue community.
  • Health & Safety:
    • Ensure a warm, safe, and inclusive environment that supports children’s growth and development.
    • Enforce, review and update policies and licensing requirements regarding the safety and health of the students.
  • Administrative & Operational Management:
    • Oversee nursery school registration, enrollment, budgeting, tuition collection, and staffing to ensure a financially sustainable and efficiently run program.
    • Manage payroll and purchasing expenses.
    • Work with marketing and communications committees to ensure effective communications and advertising.
    • Maintain compliance with all state licensing requirements, health and safety regulations, and accreditation standards.
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment for children and staff.
    • Oversee the purchase and maintenance of classroom materials and equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in early childhood education, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development, best practices in Jewish early education, and curriculum development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with children, families, staff, and synagogue leadership.
  • Experience managing budgets, enrollment, and program administration.

School Schedule

  • School day is 9am – 3pm. Morning and after-hours care options are offered to families.
  • Academic calendar runs from September through June.
  • Flexible summer schedule.

Salary: $75K – 85K, commensurate with experience
