Big Brothers Big Sisters GMW

Big Brothers Big Sisters GMW

Are you looking for a meaningful way to make a difference? You can impact the life of a young person living in a vulnerable family situation and improve their community at the same time by becoming a volunteer mentor as part of Federation’s partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson, and Union Counties.

What’s required to become a mentor?

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Pass background screening
  • Able to commit to 4 hours per month of one-on-one mentoring for a minimum of 1 year

No special degrees or job skills needed! You only need to want to positively impact a young person. Each mentor will be individually matched with a mentee, ranging in age from 5 – 16, via a personalized match-selection process.*

I'm Interested!

As a mentor through Federation’s partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, you will have access to:

  • Training and support from a Match Support Specialist coordinated by Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Virtual learning opportunities coordinated and facilitated by Federation’s Community Relations Council such as a discussion of the economic realities of inner-city life and a conversation with young people from Newark and surrounding areas.
  • Exclusive hands-on service opportunities specially designed for mentors and mentees to do together, coordinated by Federation’s Center for Volunteerism
