All are welcome to attend the much-anticipated opening of DesArad Negev-Inspired Artwork Gallery on January 8, 2017 at JCC MetroWest Gaelen Center for the Arts. Greater MetroWest artists Carol Berman, Anne Luria Burg, Jared Green, Ellen Hanauer, Gene Lowinger, Marilyn Rose, and Gail Winbury will exhibit the work they created during and after their inspirational week-long experience in the art community of Arad, Israel.
The seven artists were selected to travel to Arad, a city in the northern Negev to participate in the Desert Arts Festival, for nine days last June. They enjoyed home hospitality with Arad artists, taught classes, and were given the chance to immerse themselves in the community.
Throughout the trip the artists shared and exchanged their artwork and creativity. “It is truly amazing to look out over the desert landscape in the distance and to see how people have carved out and created a slice of paradise and have succeeded in making the desert bloom,” said Anne Burg in her blog. Participants left Israel having created real living bridges between themselves and the people in Arad.
This trip was one project of the Partnership2Gether renewal program that connects the Jewish community in Greater MetroWest with the Jewish community in Israel and around the world in order to develop stronger people-to-people connections.
The opening, which is cohosted by Global Connections of Greater MetroWest NJ and the JCC MetroWest Gaelen Center for the Arts, is on January 8 from 6 - 9 p.m. The JCC MetroWest is located at 760 Northfield Ave., West Orange. The DesArad Negev-Inspired Artwork exhibit will be on display through February 28, 2017, and all artwork will be available for purchase.
The opening is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to Stephanie Brand at firstname.lastname@example.org or (973) 929-3176 by December 30, 2016.
